Introduction

The posterior composite course will enable the delegates to restore small and large defects in posterior teeth in a predictable and consistent manner so that the restoration mimic the natural tooth. A theory with regards to composite resins will be covered but there will be a heavy emphasis on the practical side so that the practitioner will be able to restore various defects confidently.

Aims & Objectives

To enable the delegates to restore posterior teeth with direct composite resin restorations in a predictable manner.

Objectives

  1. Understand posterior tooth anatomy
  2. Shade matching
  3. Restore class II cavities with predictability
  4. Understand the Stamp Technique
  5. Appraise whether lining materials are not required
  6. Creating anatomically contact points with matrices
  7. Appraise different bonding agents

Course Content:

  • Classification of bonding agents
  • Shade taking – using different methods of taking shade predictably
  • Relating shades of teeth to composites
  • Occlusion
  • Moisture Control
  • Anatomy of teeth – identifying various features on molars and premolars and reproducing
  • them with composites
  • Incremental build-up techniques
  • Use of tints for recreating occlusal stains and fluorosis effects
  • Different matrices for creating proximal walls
  • Modifying wedges
  • Appraisal of lining materials
  • Polishing of composites predictably and consistently to high luster
  • Clinical case studies will be shown covering class and class II restorations
