Three Decades of Dentistry — and Still Teaching Every Course

After graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Sheffield in 1993, I began my professional career as a General Dental Practitioner. Early in my career, I pursued further postgraduate training, achieving the Diploma in General Dental Practice (DGDP[UK]) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996. This laid a strong foundation for my clinical practice and commitment to high standards of patient care.

Over the following years, I developed a keen interest in advancing my clinical skills, particularly in restorative and aesthetic dentistry. In 2008, I was awarded the Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies (DPDS) from the University of Bristol, followed by an Advanced Certificate in Facilitating Learning in Healthcare Practice from University of Central Lancashire in 2010. These qualifications reflect both my dedication to lifelong learning and my growing involvement in dental education. In 2015, I completed a Master of Science (MSc), further deepening my expertise and academic grounding.

Alongside clinical practice, I have maintained a strong commitment to professional leadership and development. I was honoured to serve as President of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry from 2020 to 2023, contributing to the advancement of aesthetic dentistry within the profession. In recognition of my experience and contribution to dentistry, I was awarded Fellowship of the College of General Dentistry (FCGDent) in 2024.

I am a General Dental Practitioner with a special interest in orthodontics, adhesive dentistry, and the management of complex orthodontic-restorative cases, for which I regularly receive referrals from colleagues. My clinical approach focuses on delivering high-quality, minimally invasive, and aesthetically driven outcomes tailored to each patient.

I have over 25 years of extensive experience in orthodontics, treating a wide range of patients, including complex cases in both primary and secondary care settings. This breadth of experience has enabled me to develop a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to patient care, particularly in managing cases that require close integration between orthodontic and restorative treatment.

I have published articles on aesthetic dentistry in both peer-reviewed and non–peer-reviewed journals, contributing to the wider body of knowledge in this field. I am also a Key Opinion Leader for Kulzer, reflecting my involvement in the development and application of advanced dental materials and techniques.

Teaching is an important aspect of my professional life. I enjoy sharing knowledge and skills with peers and run hands-on training courses for dentists and dental therapists through the Northwest Dental Academy. In addition, I have lectured at numerous national and international conferences, presenting on topics such as aesthetic dentistry and the management of combined orthodontic-restorative cases. These opportunities allow me to contribute to the ongoing development of the profession while staying at the forefront of contemporary dental practice.
